The original Scottish biscuit maker was McVitie & Price, Ltd. established in 1830 in Edinburgh, Scotland. McVitie & Price's first major biscuit was the McVitie's Digestive, the first ever digestive biscuit, created in 1892. The biscuit was given its name because it was thought that its high baking soda content served as an aid to digestion.
McVities Dark Chocolate Digestives have one side of the biscuit coated in plain (dark) chocolate. Digestives are one of the most popular brands sold in England. Excellent as a snack or easy dessert.
Over the last five years, McVitie’s Digestives have measurably reduced their sodium and saturated fat content.
